Family | Malvaceae |
Subshrub to 2m high. Erect with few branches.
Sida hackettiana is considered synonymous with Sida subspicata in Queensland. However, in New South Wales and the Northern Territory these are considered separate taxa. The plant is commonly seen on Eucalypt forest, woodland and dry rainforest soils. It will colonise densely at times on lateritic soils. The range, habit and seed production characteristics of Sida hackettiana makes it a very suitable taxon for mining rehabilitation in Queensland and New South Wales.
Seed from Sida hackettiana is easily collected and cleaned in Autum.
In New South Wales, Sida hackettiana extends near the coast from Sydney inland to Tamworth and north to the border. Some western occurrences are also noted, the most southerly being just north of Deniliquin. In Queensland it is spread over most of the state excluding the most western areas of the central west and south west and also the most northern parts of Cape York Penninsula. From Mount Isa, its occurrences are in a wide band across to Broom in Western Australia. Disjunct occurrences are noted on the West Australain coast and in central Australia.
