Common Name(s) | Sprawling Cassia |
Family | Fabaceae, Subfamily Caesalpinioideae |
Shrub, erect or spreading, to 3 m high, pubescent on the vegetative parts and ovary or glabrous. (Flora of Australia)
"Grows in wet or dry sclerophyll forest." (Flora of Australia)
We encounter Senna aciphylla in small groups throughout Corymbia citriodora forests, especially on laterite soils and sands. In these areas it is rarely achieving any height, remaining as a very low shrub. Production of seed for rehabilitation would be useful considering its distribution and applicability and unfortunately low, dicotyledonous ground flora are under-represented in seed offerings. However like many taxa in this class it will be difficult to obtain seed in bulk. Plant densities in the wild and seed production per plant are both relatievly low. We persist in documenting and culturing such plants in the hope of changing this situation. Senna aciphylla appears like a natural candidate for residential gardens and should be considered by nursery growers.
"Occurs in southeastern Queensland, eastern New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory and Victoria." (Flora of Australia)
