Common Name(s) | Snappy Gum |
Family | Myrtaceae |
"Small tree to 6m tall, sometimes smaller and mallee-like." (Euclid, 4th Ed.)
Harvesting of branch tips holding seed-bearing capsules is a simple operation for the small statured Snappy Gum which can easily be worked with in the dry, open spaces. Tarps of drying material can be left right beside the trees in most cases. If cutting during the wet season however, one should be prepared to quickly fold these over and place weights on them in the event of a sudden storm.
"Small tree widespread from Victoria River Downs in the Northern Territory eastwards to Tennant Creek and western Queensland, including Mt Isa and Cloncurry and south to Djarra; closely related to the E. leucophloia subsp. leucophloia, differing in the prominently exserted broad valves and fruit." (Brooker, M.I.H., and Kleinig, D.A., 2004)
