Notes

Chloris divaricata var. divaricata is a very effective taxon for rehabilitation work. It can establish and produce seed quickly. It is a remarkably resilient species which will persist under heavy grazing. Relatively small quantities of seed may produce good results in plantings.

In our experience, in southern and central Queensland, Chloris divaricata will usually form stands to about 40-50cm high so brushes must be kept low during harvesting. This makes smaller machines preferable to tractors because they will not so often clash with undulations in the ground or other obstacles such as ant mounds, timber, or rocks. Inflorescences are inevitably drawn in with the seed and must be removed later.

Historical Notes

Distribution

Scattered within NSW. Widespread in Queensland north to Cairns, appearing in coastal, the inland and western parts however generally absent in extreme western areas.
