Family | Asteraceae |
"Erect, hairy perennial shrub to 80 cm high." (PlantNet)
Calotis dentex is adapted to light soils and such ground flora are much needed for rehabilitation works. Heavy competition often exists in forested areas where seed collections may be undertaken. Wild collection of seed therefore requires considerable rainfall, early enough in the season before such country will be wet enough to bring forward seed crop. The burrs are simply harvested after they dry out and turn brown.
The distribution of Calotis dentex extends from Blackbraes National Park inland of Townsville in Queensland south to Canberra in the ACT. It appears to reach as far inland as the arid zone around Old Gooyea Outstation ruins in Queensland however it typically is found in subcoastal and semi-arid areas.
