Brachychiton discolor is found naturally in notophyll vine forest where Aracaria cunninghamii and sometimes Aracaria bidwillii occur. We commonly observe B. discolor on the Jimna Range, Qld. In these situations, some of the tallest specimens are found. Tha taxon is rarely sought for rehabilitation work however it is an excellent ornamental tree producing quality shade and showy flowering.
From the coastal range near Mackay, also near Miriam Vale, and an isolated occurence north of Injune. Mostly distributed from around Gympie west to the Bunya Mountains then following coast and adjacent inland south through Queensland and New South Wales to Dungog just south of Barrington Tops..
