Austrostipa verticillata is sometimes requested for rehabilitation work and has been made available in limited quantities. Despite these facts, the grass is well suited to southern Qld and NSW coal mining areas and could be used much more. Increasing availability will be determined by discovering relatively secure resources of the seed on grazing land which can be harvested.
We note A. verticillata occurring around brigalow, open eucalypt forest, on margins of dry rainforests, frequently on laterites. Also on clays, clay loams and alluvium.
