Family | Fabaceae, Subfamily Mimosoideae |
"Vernicose shrub to 4 m high." (WorldWideWattle ver. 2)
"Vernicose" refers to a brilliant polish.
"Grows in sandy soils or ironstone gravel, often in eucalypt woodland. Flowers May–Sept." (WorldWideWattle ver. 2)
"Allied to A. gonoclada which has smaller, non-vernicose phyllodes 9–12 cm long." (WorldWideWattle ver. 2)
Care must be taken not to confuse Acacia laccata with Acacia gonoclada, however they are simple to seperate in the field with some obvious diagnostic features. Phyllode and pod size are larger for A. laccata and the pods are a very pale brown colour, not dark brown. Seed from Acacia laccata is efficiently collected and cleaned.
Occurs in tropical W.A., north-eastern N.T. and far north-western Qld N of 23S. (WorldWideWattle ver. 2)
